Department of Social Welfare protects personal safety and builds a friendly environment on April 30 "International Denim Day"
"International Denim Day" originated from a sexual assault case in Italy in 1998. The court ruled that the assault resulted from a voluntary act of the victim because she was wearing tight jeans and rejected the appeal. Such a verdict aroused public anger, and women began to wear denim in protest. It became a symbol of the global anti-sexual assault movement. The city government recognizes the importance of "International Denim Day". Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an, deputy mayors, and heads of government agencies provided strong support, using actions to convey their firm belief in "protecting victims and rejecting violence." The Social Affairs Bureau calls on citizens to take the initiative to pay attention. If any suspected violations are found, they should report immediately to the 113 protection hotline. Professional social workers will provide 24-hour consultation services and assistance. People can also report through the "Social Safety Net Ecare" to quickly obtain services. Let us provide each other with an umbrella of protection.
