March
27  The Department of Social Welfare hosted “the 2012 Exceptional Social Workers Citation Ceremony and Achievements Review” in which, 42 outstanding social workers were publicly commended. The ceremony was attended by 225.
May
01  The Department of Social Welfare introduced a new preferential policy to benefit those with severe handicaps on the lower body and those in a vegetative state-from low-income households. They are eligible for 8 free trips on the Small Rehab Bus every month.
June
03  The Taipei Municipal Yang Ming Home for the Disabled was given an evaluation of excellence in the 1st Assessment of “No-Lift Policy” Safety Care Facilities by the Chinese Safe Patient Handling & Movement Association.
August
01  The Department of Social Welfare transferred the management of 12 municipal child daycare centers originally under the supervision of the DOSW-to the Department of Education. The daycare centers were later upgraded into public child daycare services.
October
28  The Taipei Municipal Yang Ming Home for the Disabled (YMHD) took part in “the Special Olympics Chinese Taipei 2012,” and earned 1 gold medal, 3 silvers, and 2 bronzes in individual events. YMHD also earned a bronze in women’s Bocce and a 4th place in men’s Bocce. The event concluded on October 30.
