Major Events 2011

January

01 The Department of Social Welfare of the Taipei City Government launched "Childcare Allowance." A monthly subsidy of NT$2,500 is awarded to children between 0 and 5 years of age.

March

01 The Department of Social Welfare of the Taipei City Government launched "the Safety and Protection Network against Domestic Violence in Taipei City." The program incorporated professional assistance from the police administration, medical treatment and health, social welfare, education and the legal department.

April

14 The Department of Social Welfare of the Taipei City Government celebrated Children's Day with a special activity, "the Carnival for Child Care Centers-100% Love for Our Babies."

June

13 The Department of Social Welfare of the Taipei City Government kicked off a preliminary screening in a general census, targeting live-alone senior citizens over 65 years of age in Taipei City. The screening located 89,886 such elderly citizens in the city. The screening ended on September 13th.

July

06 Jay, a resident with mid-level physical and mental disability from the Taipei City Yangming Home for the Disabled , won the gold medal in the 100-meter track-and-field race, and a silver medal in the 200-meter race at the Special Olympics Summer Games Athens 2011, Greece.

September

27 Taipei City's first parent-child facility, the "131 Fun Family Centers," was inaugurated.

November

14 The Department of Social Welfare of the Taipei City Government organized a press conference for the launching of "the Online Application of Sign Language Interpretation Services," a 24-hour sign language translation service and system.

29 The Department of Social Welfare of the Taipei City Government now includes elderly foreign residents who have made considerable contributions to Taiwan in its extended care system.
